Civic hacking: A new agenda for e-democracy.

          

  According to the article, Crabtee stated a few points which hits the major ache of the politic in British. If politics were to compare with video games, its just like a process that requires a continuous action and reaction. There is a saying where if a gamer having a trouble, gamer will rather seek help from their game friends or so-called pro-gamer than the game designer and complain about how hard is the game. This brings a meaning where internet society works in a way where we would seek help from people which is closer to us than to a farer person. This is also what known as reciprocal online.

Another significant example would be, if you are hungry and while cooking instant mee,you found out that the packet did not provide you spice. The first thing that you do will probably call your mom and ask about the spice. However, its not your mom's fault for not putting in the spice but the manufacturer's fault. This is how society works,one will help each other within the society or group rather than find the origins for the matter. Instead of the government start to gather and provides help from the internet through government websites, it would be better if government provide alternatives for netizen to voice out through a forum or discussion group so that netizen would found some common interest within themselves and constribute to the politic. 

Another point that hits the british government is that, e-democracy is still useless when user is not active in internet or not interest with your activity. As internet is a wide space for every single human, one will never ever try to google something which are not interested them, they don't even bother to type it out! Imagine that will you type wrestling when you're a nerd or just interest in girl's stuff. It would be meaningless if e-democracy apply when no user is interest about it.

In Crabtee's article, he mention about application which brings the meaning of a software/space that allows people from same interest gather together and opens up a discussion. The major problem now is there is no one starts to make these application which can change the whole society's perspective. This is known as civic hacking. The hacking here refers to software which is the application that able to change something within the society. 

In a nutshell, government should first know where their citizen is, and provide them a space to connect and communicate so that government can lead them to support the e-democracy. It works as the club concept.When everyone start dancing in the pool,others will follow. The way to make them move,is simply provide the right music.

Citizen journalism refers to individuals that doing jobs as a reporter but in a freelace/informal way. It is different than newspaper journalism as they are consists of normal people with different background but discussing and giving information on a particular incident. By using technologies and application nowadays that internet provides the world, everyone can easily becoming a citizen journalism. For example, there is a huge fire incident nearby your area, news reporter went on ground to report and printed on newspaper,online portal but at the same time you,as an individual posting tweet,facebook status describing the incident and follow-up what's going on the next day. You, became the citizen journalism for that news at that moment. In this high-technology advancement era, consumer not only receive information but also becoming eager and eager to participant on that incident. You wanted to know whats goin on next, and you start to search yourself instead of waiting tomorrow's newspaper.

 Another case would be, the freedom of speech and consumer's right is more and more significant nowadays thus consumer would actually have the guts to voice out their opinion and control or direct the incident's discussion. In Johnson's article, it mention about how twitter changes our life where he pointed out the reason of people are so obsessed of twitter. A technology writer, Clive Thompson did said about "ambient awareness" which is mean by the get to know a person's daily routine, they will be strangely  satisfy with the acknowledgement. Twitter replace the awkwardsness of people who actually curious on "what is he/she doing?Shall i call and ask?" This would be annoying if 3-5 people called me in the morning and ask me "hey,what are you eating right now?" This is totally odd but at the same time, people will have the strange feeling of wanting to know it. Thus, twitter helps to solve this awkwardness and curiousity of people.

However, would you ever think is twitter changing people's way of thinking or vice versa?

Network will never change human's perspective but is how people bring in the trend and direct the position of the social network. Instead of using blog to express an essay long of feeling towards something, twitter is much more easier by just summarizing 140charcters to express your feeling. Besides, i believe by the time you have a feeling to be express and type in blog, the mood will change as time goes by. I always experience a moment where there are lots of words  would like to express but by the time i type out the whole draft, i lost the feel and rethink it in second thought, "why would i write in a such way?" This post will never post up as it has become meaningless. However, twitter is totally different. By using 140character, you be able to express your opinion in the most summarize and effective way. at the same time, people will respond to you quickly as 140character is long enough for people to understand you at that moment.

In conclusion, twitter changes our life by using a short and brief explanation and also ability to react quick in network brings an advantage to citizen journalism to express,report and respond to particular topic. It is again, no right and wrong but is depending on how individual expressing themself.

A human nature: Why will you use money to buy something which is free? As internet includes every single thing inside and can be obtain by just simple pressing control + C and keep into our computer hardisk. By using words and pictures in internet,someone mght easily get money in any way when they are actually earning with zero cost? Imagine a person is writing a blog and get famous. What he/she does is just using a free website and post up words and picture. When he/she get fame, automatically his/her website will earn some income with zero cost,which mean 100%profit. This is why comes out a new occupation called, Blogger. By earning in virtual world, things become much easier and virtual. Here comes Kelly explaining to us what is better than a free stuff.

What would be the reason for fan to purchase pre-order than winning it from a radio station which is totally free to you? One of the main reason would be Immediacy. IT is just a simple example, free things need to wait. the reason of wanted it to be immat ediacy is because everything will have a life span, a news report has a life span on about, a day? A song would have a life span depends on the popularity,stay for 1month in radio station? A movie that will catch everyone's attention and imitate the character, it would last for 3months. By the time you wait it for free, what will it be? It's either you can't join the crowd when everyone is facinating on it, thus lead to social problem. In this situation, comes in the role of internet brings an extra point wih them. Nowadays, it is not necessary to line up in front of cd shop to buy the new release artist album of yours but you can actually pre-order through websites.

We are always concern on the world and trend nowadays, what about the old artwork? There must be at certain moment where nostalgia comes into part as it is a part of our life. This is where Amazon and Netflix able to give to user. As they have a large capacity of storage which is the internet, user be able to find back past 10-20 years books which is a treasure for certain people. This is know as long tail phenomenon. It connects niche audience with niche products (Kelly 2004). For example, bookstore will not be able to keep books that are distributed 10years ago,as due to the space and the amount of new book distribute everyday. Thus, here it is the usage of internet bring to user,where there will be limitless capacity to store the information of books which is printed 10years ago and able to let user find it out and purchase it.

Thus, free stuff is good but some people might have their reason of using money to buy.There is no right or wrong but its a matter of humanity on what they need and how they need something. Long tail phenomenon brings in emergence of old and new stuff in which reminds people not to forget the old while having the new.
