Media Convergence-Henry Jenkins.

Media convergence is being influence by the advance of technologies from time to time. It needs to be synchronize in a way where the tools and the technologies are running at the same speed. Besides, Jenkin(2004) stated that media convergence is a process,its not an endpoint. There is no ending for advancement as same goes to the convergence in media. The most significant devices would be cell phone. IT is used to communicate between far distance and slowly,as the human is asking for more, technologies slowly build peoples wishes and make it comes true one by one. From a normal telephone into a cell phone without scrren to with a screen from black and white to color, from less function to a smartphone today. Phone is not only for communicating verbally by indirectly too. Smartphone is a common devices for us people nowadays where music player,5x camera, internet,wifi,3G and also gps is included into a smart phone. Nowadays, we do not need to rush back home to check our email or msn but we can do it all by our smartphone.As old media does not get attention from the user, it has to be integrated to match the user's needs and make old media get used again although is in a brand new platform.

Jenkins state out 9 arguement between the producer and also the consumer and one of it is about regulating media content. Old media such as television,radio and newspaper usually will undergo many filterationg process before the content is being show out. However, as old media slowly converging into new platform which is internet and mobile devices, user can actually download and get in touch with content that is inappropriate for the user. As there is no border line in internet, youth can simply access to adult content page or download violent movie to watch. Another example would be the social communication problem nowadays. As compare to old media such as pen pal in magazine, editor would go through the writers and only then they show up for reader. Who will control you friends amount in facebook? in facebook you can easily get to know people without filtering them. there are many cases on Malaysian female get cheated by foreigner people through social networking. This is because of the new media nowadys lack of filter process which old media could do.

However, the world need to be improve time to time so that the trend and economy will continue to spin. It is same goes to the old media and new media. If newspaper does not go online, they would not beomces the most updated medium and slowly been replace. Thus many newspaper come out with online edition and also sms updates to the reader. Another important devices would be personal computer vs laptop. during the old time, desktop is something a great invention public but it become less convinient and useful when it is to compare with laptop. Many company uses laptop instead of desktop because of the mobility. However, recently monitor is not integrated to touchscreen monitor which is another needs for the user. The wider screen and the touchscreen property succesfully attract user to go back to desktop.

It is no right or wrong in media convergence but it is the world needs in order to make sure the world is keep spinning. Again, as Jenkins said, media convergence is a process,not an endpoint.
